Celebration!
So 2008 was a phenomenal year. We will probably look back at 2008 as the year that it all came together, that we hit our stride and really took off. 2009 is looking to be even better. It has been a blast. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s been a blast. Things have quieted down a bit now that January is here, and amidst all the preparation for the year, we were able to block off a day for celebration.

For the love of DOGS
As the proud owner of two SPCA rescues, I (Mell) love to spend time with my pooches and capture their personalities naturally. Canon, my hound dog (pictured first), chose me as his person in 2007. He is a ball of energy, loves other dogs & children, but is scared of large men with beards. Peanut is my lazy beagle who loves people, cuddling at any cost, and is a little scared of other dogs. He decidely chose Nathan as his master when we brought him home in April 2008.Today is Canon’s 2 year birthday. So Happy Birthday Canon, and here’s a post dedicated to dogs!
Nathan’s mom has two Cocker Spaniels who stay with us sometimes. 4 dogs make for some crazy times, but I love it! Majik (pictured first) is the more serious of the two, and Cosmo is the crazy/nosey one as seen below. Majik is known for carrying his food dish or stuffed toys around the house, while Cosmo feels his presence is best felt with his nose in your face.
Lora Lynne downtown– Up, down, and all around
Nathan had a fun shoot scheduled with Lora Lynne and her mom downtown in Waterfront Park, and I got to go with him. How could I not go when there’s an adorable baby involved? This was our studio’s second session with Lora Lynne, and we were so amazed at how fast she’s grown. This session was to get a Christmas surprise for her Grandmas. The pair has such great smiles, and here are some of our favorites from the session:

On a rare Saturday off
Mell and I don’t have a wedding today so we’re to Columbia to see the Gamecocks beat the UAB Blazers (26-13). It works out because our May 16 wedding couple lives in Columbia so we were able to do their engagement portraits on the Horseshoe at USC.
We then attempted the drive home, but our car broke down in the center of Columbia (luckily at a stop light). We found some very kind guys who helped push the car into a parking space. We then were turned away from two hotels because it was Parents Weekend at USC. Thankfully, the Gamecocks always take care of their own, and we got the last room in the swanky The Inn at USC. Not bad at all for breaking down close to midnight!
The next day, we went to the church Nathan attended in college and got directed to a mechanic who IS open on Sunday. Everything happened within a mile radius. The breakdown was only 4 blocks to the hotel, the church was only 3 blocks from the Inn, and the mechanic was only 2 blocks from the church. Thank God that we didn’t break down on highway and that our car only needed a new battery!
Race to Charleston!
We we are wrapping up and getting ready to brave Heathrow airport and their Draconian carry-on restrictions tomorrow so that we can try to beat Tropical Storm Hanna to Charleston to make the storm preparations. We will post picture updates when we are back in the states and safe from incliment weather!

Tea with the Queen
We made to London yesterday from Paris via the Chunnel. And last night, we met some missionaries and took some fun family portraits of them around their home and at a local park. They graciously made us a home cooked meal. We can’t wait to share with you some of the shoots we got.
Later today, we meet up with some close friends of Valerie’s to take some couple pictures around London Tower. I was hoping that we could do a photo shoot with the Queen as well, but I think she is otherwise engaged. Maybe next time. Cheerio!
Paris, we’re here
We made it yesterday to Paris with great ease thanks to the amazing train systems they have here in Europe. Our hotel is only blocks from the Eiffel Tower and the Seine river. We can’t wait to share with you some of the scenes soon, and we will have some more Germany photos up later as well. Only 4 days until the wedding!
Bratwurscht, Castles, and Racing
Our weekend in Germany was jam packed. Saturday morning, our host, Mellisa, walked a block to her local bakery in Quiedersbach to make us a traditional German breakfast. Then, we were off to downtown Kaiserslautern for the morning market where we saw flying overhead a C-17 from the Charleston Air Force base.

We then went back to Quiedersbach to hike to and photograph the castle’s ruins that overlook the city.

Then, it was time for lunch (bratwurscht and beer, of course) and the car race that started about a block away from where we stayed. The cars (all hatchback size) did several time trials up and down the twists and turns of the mountain road. We also got some great pictures of the huge alternative energy wind mills and fields that surrounded the race.
